Hard Won - 1212 Las Navas de Tolosa
Hard Won - 1212 Las Navas de Tolosa
This is a single character model of an exhausted knight. It's a beautiful bit of sculpting, and could be used as a general, as part of army baggage (while exhausted he also looks wee bit "wtf").
The background is, that on July 16th, 1212 in present day Spain, the combined forces, yet still heavily outnumbered, of the kingdoms of Castile, Navarra, Aragon, the military orders of Santiago, Templars, Calatrava, volunteer knights from Leon and Portugal, as well as some foreign crusaders from north of the Pyrenees confronted the powerful invading forces of the Almohade empire in one of the most decisive battles in the history of Europe. This figure done in the style of contemporary art we find in Spain dated from the year 1200, represents a victorious yet exhausted knight and horse, after 4 hours of fighting an experienced, successful, and numerically superior enemy.
